The first time that we saw Daniel Newman was in the Season 6 Finale of The Walking Dead. Arriving on the scene just as Carol is about to give up, he looked like an apocalyptic knight in shining armor. Our first impression was that his character was a good guy- but with The Walking Dead it's difficult to know for certain so quickly. As viewers, he left us all with the burning unanswered question- "WHO IS THIS GUY"?!
Daniel grew up in a rural farm community outside of Atlanta. He studied at Yale (which means he is smart!) and has modeled with Christian Dior, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein and Louis Vuitton not to mention being on magazine covers world wide. (which means he is also easy on the eyes!) Additionally, he also has many TV and movie credits to include One Tree Hill, The Vampire Diaries, Homeland, Drop Dead Diva, Children of the Corn and Sex in the City. As if all of that were not enough, Daniel is also a talented and experienced musician, producer and writer. Oh yeah, and now he is "that guy from The Walking Dead".
For 2SM, our focus is on artists and the interactions that they have with their fans. What exactly does that mean? As fans, there is nothing more gratifying than knowing that the "public figure" you admire for their work is actually a real person that can be humble, honest and genuine in their private life. We LOVE the celebrities who make the time to connect with their fans and build a relationship with their fan base. With that in mind, it did not take long for us to find Daniel in all of his ginger glory on Social Media. Watching his live streams and posts, we saw that Daniel clearly LOVES his fans. It is our belief that loving your fans and treating them right is the key to longevity. Even if the general public is no longer buying or watching, a central hard core fan base will keep an artist going strong. By all indications, Daniel Newman is going to be around for a LONG LONG time.
Despite his busy and hectic schedule, Daniel was gracious enough give 2 Single Moms this exclusive interview. 2 Single Moms hereby affirms and attests that Daniel Newman is everything you have seen on social media and then so much more. He is kind, talented, driven, creative and diverse. Daniel embraces the energy from his fans and fuels himself on it. Without question, Daniel Newman loves his fans!
2SM: What is it like for you to be on a show (The Walking Dead) with such a unique and intense fan base?
Daniel: It's mind boggling. I'll shoot a scene and my friends will call me from other countries or cities and say "You looked cool today!" and it turns our paparazzi or fans got pics from the set! It's pretty incredible the mania this show has and loyalty from it's fans. The creators and cast are obviously incredible, so it's such an honor to be a part of it now. Humbling. I'll try to do my best! It's nuts, my character has barely been revealed and half a million people started following me right after the finale last year. So wild. I can't wait to meet everyone in person at Walker Stalker in Orlando Sept 17th and possibly others this year.
2SM: Tell us about your music. Who are your musical influences? Where can we find your music?
Daniel: I'm a big blend of influences. I grew up in the hood half the time, then out in the country, then NYC. So I was raised on everything from Funk Motown, Beastie Boys, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Cypress Hill, Michael Jackson, NIN [Nine Inch Nails], Nirvana, Garth Brooks, Beethoven, Bjork and Ray LaMontagne. You name it. I'm doing the show [The Walking Dead] now, but music wise I'm just producing artists and placing my personal songs on TV show / Film soundtracks. You can get my Album anywhere, iTunes, Amazon, Spotify or any of the others. Actually, I'm giving my album away for free right now to share with new fans, so go to www.twitter.com/DanielNewman or www.Instagram.com/DanielNewman_ and Follow me and you'll see a link to download my album for free. Just give it to all your friends. ; )
2SM: What is the most unique experience you have had with your fans that stands out in your memory?
Daniel: I love a crowd and seeing the faces of everyone in bliss during a show, jumping around happy and singing along. It's such an amazing rush, and deep connection. On a one to one basis, I would have to say the fans that have gotten my name or images tattooed on them. That's just insane. I couldn't believe it when I heard about it! I was so shocked. But it's such an honor to meet people that have been touched by your work and know that it meant something and that it made someone happy and feel understood and feel like they are loved. I've been so fortunate to have an amazing family, but I know a lot of people aren't. So if my work can give someone some love and make them feel like their not alone or the only one that thinks and feels a certain way, then I have accomplished my goal. That's what it's all about. Rock, Soul, EDM, Rap,.... all music... it is meant to be a connection that gives hope, inspiration and unity. That's what I do it for.
2 SM: Who is the one person (celebrity or musician) that you would LOVE to meet and why?
Daniel: I think I've met them all. Haha.. I have been in the business forever behind the scenes. I loved meeting and/or seeing Micheal Jackson, Madonna, Prince, Cruise, the list goes on and on. I was really influenced as a kid with film and music. It let me escape my small town and it made me think anything was possible. Julia Roberts mom was my acting coach as a kid, so it was really cool to see Julia and think that someone from my home town could "make it". Seeing artists live was always a cool connection. I think that I wished I could have gone to a Nirvana concert. Then again, they are such legends to me, it might have killed my impression if I saw them live and realized that they are just real human beings. Haha... a kid's fantasy of them is probably way better.
2SM: Were you a fan of TWD before you were cast?
Daniel: Yes. I'm a huge fan of any shows made in Georgia. I just think it's so cool to have my home town filled with opportunity and success. I always dreamed as a little boy that this would happen.
2SM: Are you a fan of the TV series Supernatural? Daniel: Yeah. 2SM: Have you ever been to a Kid Rock show?
Daniel: HELL YEAH!! I wasn't a big fan initially, but then somehow in high school I went along to one of his concerts and it completely changed my mind. The guy is EPIC live. Such a show man! He sat and played Elton John songs on piano, and just was an incredible musician. So much more than just a factor pop made act. I wasn't sure what to expect, but he definitely won me over live. I would love to go to another one of his concerts! Thanks Daniel! Rest assured, The next time Kid Rock is in town, 2 Single Moms will be hitting you up to go to the show! It. Will. Happen. (2SM famous last words!)
